Paul Davis, affectionately known across Central Virginia as “RVA Santa,” was a beloved community figure whose warmth, humility, and joyful spirit shaped the holiday season for generations of Richmond families. A proud United States Coast Guard veteran, he carried a lifelong commitment to service that guided both his character and his calling as Santa. He began portraying Santa in the late 1990s at Fairfield Commons Mall, where his genuine kindness and natural connection with children quickly made him a favorite.

He later spent many cherished seasons at Bass Pro Shops in Ashland and became a holiday tradition at Green Top Sporting Goods, where families returned year after year for the magic he created. For 28 years, Paul brought wonder, laughter, and comfort to countless families throughout the Richmond community.

He approached every visit with sincerity and compassion, believing each child deserved to feel seen, valued, and joyful. He was especially known for his patience and love for children with special needs, always taking extra time to make their visits meaningful and comfortable. One of his most treasured traditions was visiting the children’s hospital, where he brought Christmas directly to those unable to see Santa elsewhere.

Cathy Davis, his devoted partner and wife, as Mrs. Claus, was an integral part of their holiday magic. She delighted in welcoming children with warmth and encouragement, often reading Christmas stories during home visits and gently guiding each child just before they met Santa to share their wishes. Her presence brought calm and joy, ensuring every interaction felt personal and special.

Together, Paul and Cathy served on the Board for the Santa Family Reunion and were instrumental in starting the Virginia Santa group, creating lasting connections among Santas and spreading the spirit of the season throughout the region
